In the heart of a Petite Cité de Caractère, an architectural jewel of exceptional quality, enhanced by a unique restoration, opens its doors to you for a visit on the borderline between the real and the virtual.
Founded in 1068, the abbey enjoyed the protection of the Dukes of Aquitaine and was granted royal abbey status in 1141 by Eleanor of Aquitaine, then Queen of France.
Saint-Vincent Abbey is one of the few monastic complexes in Poitou to have survived almost intact, with its three components: church, convent buildings and the only Romanesque cloister in the west to have been preserved in its entirety.
